NFC Delivers First Batch of Primary Aluminum from Vietnam's First Large-Scale Modern Electrolytic Aluminum Project

On July 14, 2026, the first phase of the 450kt/a electrolytic aluminum project in Vietnam, which was contracted and constructed by CHINA NONFERROUS METAL INDUSTRY’S FOREIGN ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION CO.,LTD.(NFC),successfully produced its first batch of liquid primary aluminum, marking the official commissioning of Vietnam's first large scale modern electrolytic aluminum plant into the trial production stage. The project achieved its first aluminum production 50 days ahead of the contractual milestone, while the overall construction schedule was completed three months ahead of plan, setting a new benchmark for large-scale electrolytic aluminum EPC projects in Southeast Asia.

 The project is located in Daknong Province, Vietnam (now Lam Dong Province). Despite challenges such as cross-border logistics disruptions and construction during the rainy season, the project team worked tirelessly to coordinate design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, while implementing a two-shift closed-loop management system. Following the successful energization of all 112 electrolytic cells in Phase I on July 7, 16 electrolytic cells in workshops one and two entered stable baking operations, achieving zero faults in the entire process of "power transmission cell baking aluminum production".

As Vietnam's first electrolytic aluminum project, the project has enabled Vietnam's first large-scale domestic production of primary aluminum, promoted the international application of Chinese standards, technologies, and equipment, and ended Vietnam's long-standing absence of domestic primary aluminum production capacity. The project represents another milestone in China-Vietnam industrial and production capacity cooperation. Next, NFC will continue the commissioning and baking of the remaining electrolytic cells, gradually bring the Phase I annual production capacity of 150,000 tons online and establish the project as a benchmark overseas EPC project through world-class engineering excellence and outstanding project execution.
